Northeast Ohio Staycations: You Don’t Need to Go Anywhere This Summer!

Are you looking to squeeze that last little bit out of summer? How about a staycation?! The weather is so great in Northeast Ohio in the summer that I don’t know why anyone would want to leave! Check out these three itineraries, each highlighting a different part of NEO. Your summer staycation = planned!

Downtown Cleveland Getaway

Start the day off around lunch by heading to Ohio City for some mid-day bar hopping. Make sure to take the (free!) Great Lakes Brewery tour and stop for lunch at Bar Cento, SOHO or Market Garden.

Great Lakes Tour

After lunch, head downtown and check in to your hotel. I suggest the Metropolitain at the 9 or the Aloft if you are looking to treat yourself. Both have fabulous rooftop bars if you want to continue the cocktailing!

For dinner, check out Lago, located on the East Bank of the Flats. Make sure you try your luck at the casino or catch some laughs at Pickwick and Frolic after. For some late night fun, head to The Vault or Society Lounge for a nightcap.

You can’t end a Cleveland staycation without some brunch! I recommend Urban Farmer or Cleveland Chop for some of the best brunch in town.

Akron Adventure

Grab some coffee at Nervous Dog Coffee Bar and start the morning at the gorgeous Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens. Wander around the gardens into the afternoon while sipping your coffee and taking in the absolutely breathtaking scenery.

If you’re still up for being outside, head to the Akron Zoo to see the more than 700 animals. Enjoy the Stark Grizzly Ridge exhibit, which is the largest expansion in the history of the zoo, and includes an aviary, grizzly bears, river otters, bald eagles and more.

Akron - Lock 3 Concert

Grab dinner and take in the busy downtown area. I recommend trying The Lockview, Crave or 3 Point.

Island Escape

Take the Miller Ferry to Put in Bay. During the day, rent golf carts to explore the island. Stop by Perry’s Monument and The Butterfly House. Grab some wine at Heineman’s Winery to get the party started. Don’t forget to have some famous Frosty’s pizza and stop at the world’s longest bar at Beer Barrel Saloon. Party into the night with your friends…it is, after all, Put in Bay!

The Miller Ferry can also take you to Middle Bass Island, which tends to have a much more relaxed and laid back atmosphere. Enjoy some relaxation as you wander around the marina or state park. Retire for the night to your campground or waterfront villa after enjoying dinner at one of the quaint restaurants.

The Kelleys Island Ferry will take you to the beautiful island of Kelleys. Rent a golf cart (they have many locations) and leisurely tour the island. Schedule a fishing charter and enjoy Kelleys world class fishing. Enjoy yourself through the night at the many restaurants and bars.
