Hall of Fame Village – Stark’s New Smart City

Hall of Fame Village Partners with Johnson Controls to Create Smart City

With a completion date set for 2019, the Johnson Controls Hall of Fame Village in Canton not only looks to become a major tourist draw, it will also be the first-ever sports and entertainment “smart city.” Once complete, the nearly $600 million project will include a luxury hotel, retail and restaurants, a virtual reality amusement park, an updated stadium, a youth sports complex and a sports research and medical center. All of that on top of an updated museum, which has long been a fan favorite. While development is well underway, the opening of the full facility is projected to come online in 2019 to coincide with the NFL’s 100th season.

As Hall of Fame Village looks to revolutionize the fan experience, it will do so using the latest technology, thanks to its partnership with Johnson Controls. The company, which specializes in building efficiency and energy storage, is helping Hall of Fame Village become what many refer to as a “smart city.” In essence, a smart city refers to any series of smart buildings and infrastructure that are inter-connected to create efficiencies; they can be controlled remotely through a central location.

While Johnson Controls has done many large-scale projects for government and educational campuses, Hall of Fame Village is a first of its kind facility for the company.  The village will be powered by a series of smart technologies that control its heating and cooling, fire and security, as well as the fan experience and scoreboard. Ultimately, Hall of Fame Village will seek to replicate many of the features found at Johnson Control’s headquarters in Milwaukee which is designed to be a sustainable facility that is comfortable to its occupants. To get a sense of just how “smart” a building can be, check out this article from the Canton Repository, which takes an in-depth look at the innovative technologies powering Johnson Control’s own headquarters. Many of these features will be applied to Hall of Fame Village.

With an 18-year partnership in progress, the Hall of Fame and Johnson Controls are equally excited by the many possibilities of Hall of Fame Village. In our world of inter-connected devices and technologies, Hall of Fame Village will become a shining example of how a mixed-use facility can incorporate the latest technological advances to be smarter and more efficient.
