The Best of 2017 in NEO

This year was a pretty amazing one for Northeast Ohio, as the region continues to make its mark on the national scene with amazing culture and dining.

So, we wanted to round up some of our favorites of 2017. We’d love to hear yours too!

Dining and Drinks

There were lots of notable additions to the dining and drinking scene, from glamorous to casual.

Marble Room Steak and Raw Bar transformed the National City Bank Building into a truly extraordinary restaurant that specializes in steak and oysters. And while you’re getting glammed up for a fancy night out, try Cru Uncorked, with French cuisine in a country chateau setting.

Speaking of seafood, The Boiler 65 in Gordon Square has to be one of the most fun new restaurant concepts to hit the scene this year, where you eat with your hands and sip libations out of baggies.

There have been a lot of additions to the craft beer scene, many of which also incorporate great food too, such as Brim Kitchen and Brewery in Willoughby and Masthead Brewing Co. in Downtown Cleveland, both of which offer great beers made in house, as well as tasty meals too.

And speaking of beer, try Brewnuts, which combines craft beer and donuts into something funky, tasty, and original.

Ushabu has to be one of the most unique (and delicious) additions to the ever-growing dining scene, which is expanding not only in number but variety.

The cultural offerings in Northeast Ohio have grown over the past year, too. Here are some of our favorites:

Cleveland Starts Here is the new permanent exhibit at the Cleveland History Center of the Western Reserve Historical Society, which pays homage to Cleveland’s history from founding to Sixth City to industrial stronghold to present day.

The newly reopened Children’s Museum of Cleveland is bright, inviting, and filled with amazing and imaginative ways to play.

Playhouse Square KeyBank Broadway Series expanded the shows’ runs to three weeks each and the number of subscribers is second in the country, surpassing Los Angeles. The Series includes the launch of the national tour of “Waitress,” as well as the national sensation “Hamilton” in July.

This year, street art has popped up everywhere from Ohio City to Waterloo, including a mural commissioned by Instagram’s #kindcomments campaign.

The Cleveland Indians broke Major League baseball records this year with an unprecedented and exciting 22-game win streak that energized fans across the country.

While the outcome of the NBA Finals was not what we would have hoped, the Cleveland Cavaliers made an appearance in their third straight NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors.
